Located in the Andean Chocó of Pichincha, northwest of Quito, 15 km from the Middle of the World, the montane cloud forest and paramo, extend in a set of steep micro mountain ranges, in an area of about 9000 hectares. Vital space for the circulation routes of endangered fauna, such as the Andean bear, deer, pumas and monkey machín; as well as a place of concentration of one of the purest waters of the Metropolitan District of Quito. The protection area includes two areas of protective forest, recognized by the national environmental authority: Cambugán and Paso Alto.

The philosophy of protection is to ensure land ownership for conservation and harmonious use, as well as to link and support other families of inhabitants, landowners and neighbors, in about 10 communities, inside and outside them.

Forests, in turn, represent an inexhaustible source of environmental services, such as water concentration, oxygen generation and air purification, temperature regulation and carbon sequestration. They are also a unique opportunity for scientific research, guided tours, and specialized tourism (avitourism, for example).
